Ebou Correa, immigration officer, attached to the Immigration head office in Banjul, yesterday gave his evidence-in-chief at the ongoing trial involving Pap Saine, managing editor and co-publisher of the Point newspaper.

The immigration officer, testifying before Magistrate Lamin George said, sometime in the month of February 2009, he was assigned to join supreintendent Malamin Ceesay, head of the Fraud Squard and Inspector Ndure at the Police Head quarters in Banjul. According to the immigration officer, Pap Saine was questioned with regard to his nationality and he (Pap Saine) produced his birth certificate, voter’s card, ID card, passport, the photocopy of the passport of Pap Saine’s father, title deed of his father’s compound in Banjul and receipts of rate paid.

Immigration Officer Correa, who appeared as prosecution third witness, revealed that Pap Saine insisted being a Gambian. The said papers were tendered and marked as exhibits. Responding to cross-examination from the defence, Officer Correa said they were satisfied with Pap Saine’s response to the questions.
