The Kanifing Municipal Council (KMC) fans club in collaboration with the National Environment Agency (NEA), supported  by  some students of St Mary’s University in Halifax, Canada, are on the verge of drawing the first ever green map of the Gambia Over the weekend, the tripartite team held a one-day training on how to draw a green map and the significance of green maps.

Speaking at the opening ceremony of the seminar, the Lord Mayor of Kanifing, Yankuba Colley said the issues relating to the environment are on top of his agenda and he is working hard with the councillors to change the nature of the Municipality. He then disclosed that the council has recently signed a Memorandum of Understanding with Green Shape, an organization based in Halifax Canada, to promote a healthy environment. Mayor Colley called on the participants to listen attentively so that they can spread the message to the Municipality at large.

Speaking earlier, Dawda Trawally, a representative of the NEA said the training is for the ultimate good of the Municipality. He also emphasised the need for the participants to participate effectively in the training session so that they  share  what they learnt, with  their friends and to the wider populace.

For his part, the president of the KMC Youth Fans Club, Pierre Minteh, noted that the club is well known for focusing on the environment. He further said  that this has enabled them to sign an MOU with the NEA so that they can together help build a sustainable environment. He spoke at length on the importance of the environment to human life, concluding that the training is a joyous moment for the club.
