Honorable Adama Cham, National Assembly member for Kombo North, has stated that there are plans for the establishment of a police welfare association in the Kombo North.

According to Hon Adama Cham, Kombo North will establish the police welfare association before the end of the holy month of Ramadan.  He added that the police welfare association will be established in all the police stations across Kombo North. Honourable Adama Cham made this revelation last Saturday, during the presentation of 10 bags of rice to the Brusubi Police Station - a gift from Mr Odimmegwa, a Nigerian businessman and managing director of Dimex Company Ltd.

The Kombo North National Assembly member was reacting to comments made by the donor and the police public relations officer, ASP Sulayman Secka, on the need to strengthen and preserve the spirit of community policing in The Gambia as practiced in other parts of the world. Honourable Adama Cham revealed that the Kombo North police welfare association will work closely with all the police stations in Kombo North as part of efforts to prevent crimes within the area and The Gambia as a whole.

The paramount chief of The Gambia,  Alhaji Demba Sanyang, reiterated the comments made by Honorable Adam Cham, saying that the police welfare association will greatly help strengthen the spirit of community policing in the area. ASP Sulayman Secka, the police public relations officer, hailed the idea of establishing a police welfare association in Kombo North.  The police PRO seized the opportunity to speak about the introduction of community policing in The Gambia, which started in Banjul and the Kanifing Municipality. The programme, according to him, will soon cover all the regions of the country.
