Message to the nation

Wednesday, February 4, 2009
Editor,

I just want to thank the Government and people of The Gambia for making me proud as a Gambian. All this is possible through the able leadership of Professor Yahya Jammeh. When I listen or read his speeches, I find it hard to hold my tears. But my questions are always:

How many of us do listen to him? How many speak the language he speaks? Are we ready for a real change? All his expressions are facts and do we only have to mark it correct and leave it with him? I say a big NO. It's a collective responsibility irrespective of tribe, religion, origin, politics or profession, to work together and help Jammeh achieve the dreams and aspirations he has for Mother Gambia.

"Together we can". Jammeh's dream is to make The Gambia a super power nation not only in terms of its military but also in terms of food self-sufficiency, health and development. We will never know the leadership we have until we are out of the country. The Gambia is heaven in terms of peace, stability, humanity, development, as well as tolerance. Ask all those who are away to give their honest opinions, especially those who have ever been on peacekeeping missions. There is no place like The Gambia. Let’s please help and give a chance to our president. No one else will develop our country; this is a statement that we should all embrace as Gambians.

We have seen what is going on in the world. I am a Gambian living in the UK any time I visit the Observer website, I always feel happy because of the developments going on in the country. Let politics never divide us. The interest of our country, as our head of state always put it, is a priority. Let us join hands to raise Gambia to higher heights.

President Jammeh is working both day and night to make every Gambian proud. This is not a secret nor a political statement. We have seen the 14 years of President Jammeh’s leadership. Most of us are attending universities almost in our old age because we never got one when we were young. President Jammeh has made it possible for one to attend a university at the age of 18 and in our own country for that matter. No nation can develop leaving its human resource behind.

This is why every year, he is giving out hundreds of scholarships both abroad and home. He is preparing the ground and so it is up to us to utilize the opportunies given in the best interest of our motherland. Please extend my best wishes to President Jammeh, his government and the Daily Observer, and other media houses who tirelessly work to bring Gambians together. This is the true culture of The Gambia. Most of us  abroad are always at peace when we wake up and read progressive news about the country.

Professor Jammeh, God will always protect and guide you. I have no English word to express how much you mean to Gambia. May 2009 be the best year for all Gambians and may we see more projects launched. Most of us abroad are all working hard to one day join you.

The Gambia is a true Smiling Coast for everyone. I will always love my president, my people and all those who always wish The Gambia the best. Daily Observer and The Point, keep up your good work. You are really ambassadors of our nation. God will stand by you.
