The Minority leader and National Assembly member for Kiang West, Honourable Momodou LK Sanneh, has added his voice to the chorus of commendations emanating from National Assembly members following the  landmark address by His Excellency Professor Alhaji Dr Yahya AJJ Jammeh, during the State Opening of the Assembly.

The Gambian leader, the opposition UDP politician said, has fulfilled a constitutional requirement. Honourable Sanneh was speaking on Tuesday, during a debate on the president’s speech, as he opened the 2009 legislative year. According to the minority leader, page 84 of the 1997 constitution, section 77 (1), has given the president the power to address the National Assembly once every year.

He went on to commend the president for recognising their efforts, making reference to the portion of the president’s speech where he expressed appreciation to the National Assembly members for the good job they did during the 2008 legislative year. "As a matter of fact, if someone appreciates the good job you have done, and thank you for that, it is also my duty, on behalf of the National Assembly members, to thank the president," he said.
