Niamina Dankunku Chief Dies

Mr. Kebba Ceesay, aged, 72, a one time Director-General of the National Intelligence Agency (NIA) and Chief of Niamina Dankunku last Saturday, 3rd October 2009, passed away.

Speaking to The Point, Mr. Senegal Gassama, an uncle to the late Mr. Ceesay revealed that, Mr. Kebba Ceesay was born in December 1938. He attended Dankunku Primary School from 1951-1958, and later moved to Muhammedan School (the over-aged school) from 1958-1962 to do his standard 7.

He started working at Jenoi Agricultural Centre in the same year, and later joined the Gambia Police Force in the year 1962, together with Mr. Momodou Gassama, the then Director-General of Immigration, where he rose to the rank of a Police Inspector.

According to him, the late Mr. Ceesay also served in the National Intelligence Agency where he was promoted to the rank of Deputy Director-General for 2 years and then became the Director-General of the agency.

Gassama said Mr. Ceesay was in 1997 appointed as the Assistant Commissioner of W/D, later became the Commissioner and then back to the NIA as Director-General on a 4-year contract.

He said after the contract had expired, Mr. Ceesay was appointed Chief of Niamina Dankunku, a position he held until his demise on October 3rd 2009. He said the late Mr. Ceesay was survived by 3 wives and 12 children, and described by many as a hardworking, honest, upright and generous man.
