NSC Interim Committee Inaugurated

The Secretary of State for Youth and Sports, Hon. Sheriff Gomez, yesterday presided over the inauguration ceremony of the new interim committee of the National Sports Council at the Independence Stadium in Bakau.

In his inaugural speech, SoS Gomez underscored the significance of sports in development, in the country.

He revealed that the interim committee members should build much stronger foundation and work towards achieving excellence in sports.

SoS Gomez added that it’s only by collective responsibility on the part of each and everyone of us to work hard, that we can realize our objectives.

SoS Gomez further emphasised the usefulness of the conference as it is pivotal in the sense that it brings together all of the sports fraternity including the press so as to look for a way forward.

“This ceremony is fundamentally in line with president Jammeh’s commitment to the development of sports through his department”.

SoS Gomez seized the opportunity to commend the out going committee members for their hard work and commitment during their tenure in office.

He finally assured them of his office and government support at all times.

For his part, the chairman of the interim committee NSC, Alex Dacosta, expressed delight for being part of the committee, noting that success can only be achieved through collaborative effort.

Speaking earlier the Permanent Secretary Department of State for Youth and Sports, Mambanyik Njie assured the gathering that they would create an enabling environment in order to achieve excellence in sports.

He added that the team is also tasked with the responsibility of raising the needed funds to support the interim committee.

The interim council chaired by Mustapha Alex Dacosta, include George Gomez, Modou Gaye, Sheikh Faye, Bakary Jammeh, Ousman Wadda, Director of Youth and Sports, Kunkung Jobarteh representative of the Permanent Secretary Department of State for Basic and Secondary Education, and Cecilia Jallow.
