Following the previous announcements for congress of its general assembly - after the term of office of the present executive expired last December - the National Youth Parliament (NYP) of The Gambia has finally scheduled a date for its congress.
According to officials from the parliament’s secretariat, the previously slated congresses were not held due to preparations for the National Youth Conference and Festival (NAYCONF) which were recently held in Farrafenni, North Bank Region.
Honourable Ebrima Sillah, the administrative secretary of the National Youth Parliament told the Daily Observer that the congress will take place in the Lower River Region on Saturday, 24 January at Soma, Jarra West District. According to him, the congress will attract youth delegates from across the district to elect the 30 Youth parliamentarians in the region. The process, he added, will be facilitated by the NYP in collaboration with the Regional Youth Committee of the Lower River Region.
“The following week Saturday, on 31 January another will take place in the Kanifing Municipality and will be conducted at the KMC Chambers, while February 1st is scheduled for the North Bank Region, to be hosted by the people of Kerewan. For Banjul City, Western Region, Central River Region and the Upper River Regions, the congresses will follow suit as all are expected before mid-February,” he said.
Honourable Sillah further explained that the general assembly of the National Youth Parliament is scheduled from the 20th to 22nd February in Banjul, noting that all the regional delegates will take part in the memorial event.
