The Gambia National Youth Service Scheme (NYSS), under the purview of the Ministry of Youth and Sports, will today commence its orientation programme for its tenth intakes, at the NYSS Orientation Camp.

According to Mr. Musa Mbye, the Executive Director of NYSS, the six weeks orientation which is being supported and funded by GAMJOPS will bring together 200 youths from different parts of the country.

He revealed that the new members will also go through a regulated camp environment, endurance drills and will also be introduced to leadership skills and good practices.

“They will also receive some introductory lectures on skills areas offered by the NYSS, including counseling, sexual and reproductive health, culture and tradition,” he said.

These, he added, will help the intakes make informed choices as to which areas of study they would undergo.

He further stated that the programme would help instil discipline in youth, as well as polish and strengthen their practical, social and leadership skills to enable them withstand and overcome the challenges that lie ahead of them.

He implored on all successful candidates to work hard in order to make the programme a success thus complementing government’s efforts in developing the nation.

NYSS Boss finally thanked GAMJOP for funding this year’s programme.
