OC Fraud Squad Testifies in Fake Gold Dust CaseWednesday, January 28, 2009
Superintendent Biran Jobe, officer commanding Fraud Squad Unit of The Gambia Police Force, yesterday testified as the prosecution’s last witness in the on-going gold dust case involving one Amadou Kago Sowe at the Kanifing Magistrates’ Court. In his testimony, Officer Jobe adduced that while in his office with the accused on the 21st July 2008, he wrote to one Samba Bowe, a silver and gold expert requesting him to help determine or verify as to whether the gold in question was genuine or fake. He said that some days later he received a response from Mr. Bowe indicating that the gold was fake. Mr. Amadou Sowe is charged with two counts of attempting to commit an offence, by attempting to sell 24. 006 Kgs of fake gold dust to one Muhammed Bayomu and also being in possession of fake gold dust. Mr. Sowe has denied the charges. Meanwhile the presiding magistrate, Abdoulie Mbake, has told Mr. Sowe to open his defence. The case was adjourned to 11th February 2009. Author: Sainey M.K. Marena
