Yesterday, 8 April 2008, renovation works on the two security posts at the Denton Bridge (police and military) commenced.
The works, which have been approved by the Inspector General of Police and the State Guard commander, are fully sponsored by Oceanic Bank Gambia Ltd. The project is expected to last for a period of two months and result in an extensive overhaul of the posts which guard the entrance to the nation’s capital. In addition to the electrical and plumbing renovations, personnel of the posts will enjoy access to digital satellite television, courtesy of the bank. The bank will also provide beds for the sleeping quarters of the security personnel stationed at the bridge.
This development is an extension of the bank’s corporate social responsibility strategy, which, according to its Branding Consultant - Ebou Waggeh, is a user friendly one. "We believe that the security forces are an important part of society and that is why we interested in partnering with them," he explained. This project, he further stated, is not the bank’s first partnership with security forces as it had also donated traffic dais to the police force, last year.
"As far as we are concerned," Waggeh reiterated, "spending this kind of money on such projects like the renovation of the security posts is more beneficial than investing the same amount of money in putting billboards all over the place."
