A one-day workshop on fact finding ECOWAS mission ended recently at the governor’s office in Brikama Western Region.

Speaking at the closing ceremony, the governor of Western Region, Lamin Sanneh, said Africa is for Africans and the people of Africa are the only ones who can live as a people, think as a people and solve their own problems as a people.

He disclosed that this cross programme has been initiated by both ECOWAS and ENDA in partnership with The Gambia chapter. He said it has come at the right time as for a long time Africa has been associated into destitution, poverty, malnutrition, illiteracy, HIV/AIDS and drought and war.

According to Governor Sanneh, Africa was one of the most stable and unified continents and had enjoyed peace and stability for centuries. He added that this changed with the introduction of colonialism and the scramble for land in Africa become partition. This was carried out by both the French and the English colonists thus sanctioning disintegration, which resulting in border demarcation and the division of people who shared many things in common. He cited The Gambia and Senegal as an example.
