Police Assailant Case Continues

The ongoing trail of Ismail Ngum, who is charged with assaulting a police officer and going armed in public on 5thJanuary 2009, called its first witness to testify before senior Magistrate Sainabou Wadda-Ceesay of the Kanifing Magistrates’ Court.

Testifying before the court, Alpha Sambou said that he is a coach for a team residing in Serrekunda. He said on that faithful day they were sitting at one video club while the accused was coming from training they invited him to come and drink “Ataya” with them.

He further informed the court that they normally invite the accused whenever he is coming from training in the evening.

Whiling chatting at that moment they saw a patrol team of police. The boys started running and we told them no one should run because there is nothing illegal. He noted that one of the police told Ismail that he owned the cutlass that was found in their disposal. They started to push and pull until the accused was arrested and taken to Serekunda Police Station. He said from there they informed the accused parents that Ismail was arrested.

Under cross-examination the police prosecutor Sgt. 870 Touray asked the witness how long did he know the accused he replied for the past 16 years.

Sgt. Touray told him that the accused told the court that the cutlass was brought by the police he replied in negative.

The case was then adjourned until 2ndFebruary 2009 .
