The Gambian leader, Professor Alhaji Dr Yahya Jammeh, has received an invitation from his Taiwanese counterpart, His Excellency Ma Ying Jeou.
This development was revealed to journalists by Dr Richard Shih, ambassador of the Republic of China on Taiwan to The Gambia, who called on Professor Jammeh, yesterday. Dr Shih told journalists that he was at State House to present to the Gambian leader the letter of invitation from his counterpart President Ma.
Speaking to reporters shortly after his audience with President Jammeh, the Taiwanese representative to The Gambia revealed that President Jammeh had graciously accepted the invitation “from his brother and friend for a visit in the best suitable time.” According to Ambassador Shih, his main purpose of the visit will focus on agriculture, and it will avail the two leaders the opportunity to discuss agricultural issues in terms of food security, and the back-to-the-land policy of President Jammeh, among other issues.
This visit, which will also accord the two leaders the opportunity to exchange views and ideas on an array of development issues, according to Ambassador Shih, will further boost the long-standing bilateral ties existing between the two countries. Ambassador Richard Shih went on to say that the government of The Gambia will announce the date for the visit in due course.
