According to him, if bush fire occurs at this time of the year, there will be many post-harvest losses for crops which are stored in the bush. He added that bush fires are the major sources of forest degradation.

The regional forestry officer Ousainou Cham noted that bush fires are not the only forms of forest exploitation but also over grazing.According to him, at this time of the year, Walankehs from Senegal stormed the region with their ruminants which over-grazed the forest.

He urged the district committee members to go round by mid December to sensitise the community on the impact of bush fires to our environment. He also called on the people to make fire belts around their forest parks in order to prevent the forest from bush fire.
