Thursday, February 5, 2009
The former Gambia Under 20 midfielder, Saja Leigh, is presently training with the New York Red Bulls who ply their trade in the Major League Soccer - the premier tier of American football, Observer Sports can reveal.

The 20-year-old Gambian is one of the four newcomers coach Juan Carlos Osorio has brought in to meet the Red Bulls for the Florida leg of training camp ahead of the start of the new league season. Saja Leigh, who featured in the Gambia Under 17 team that upset Brazil in the Under 17 World Cup in 2005 and the Under 20 team in 2007, was loaned out to Stade de Mali by Sait Matty-Africell in 2007.

After the elapse of his season-long loan deal with the Malian champions, the utility defender-cum-midfielder returned to Banjul before heading to  Europe. If successful, Saja will join three of his youth team-mates in Sainey Nyassi and Abdoulie Ken Manually of New England Revolution and Seattle Sounder’s new signing, Sanna Nyassi, in the Major League Soccer, which now features some world star players including England’s David Beckham and Sweden’s Frederick Lumberg.
