The Rotary Club of Fajara, in a bid to strengthen the country’s health sector last Friday donated a Culp scope worth US$20, 000 to the management of the Royal Victoria Teaching Hospital in Banjul, at a presentation held at the hospital ground.
Speaking at the handing over ceremony, the Minister of Health and Social Welfare, Dr. Mariatou Jallow applauded the gesture of the Rotary Club of Fajara, adding that it would go a long way towards reducing the burden of women dying of complicated health problems that can be cured or diagnosed.
According to Dr Jallow, it is very devastating to see a women dying of cancer, which she added, reduces mortality. She stated that complementing government efforts more so the health sector, is a step in the right direction.
She urged other institutions to emulate the humanitarian gesture of the Rotary Club of Fajara, while assuring them of her Ministry’s close collaboration for the development of the country’s health sector.
For his part, Muhammad Jagana of the Rotary of Fajara who spoke on behalf of the club noted that the donation was made possible through a request made by the then Chief Medical Director of RVTH and now Minister for Health, Dr Mariatou Jallow.
Mr. Jagana stated that the donation was made possible through their partners in Switzerland for the upgrading of the health sector.
He assured the beneficiaries of their continuous collaboration, while urging them to make the best use of the donated items.
