Foundation Support and Build up Gambia, a Holland-based charity last Thursday 30th April donated food items equivalent to 14, 000 to the St. John’s school for the deaf.

The items, which include twelve bags of rice, four drums of 50 litre oil, three cartons of chicken, one carton of tomato paste, three bags of onion, three kilos of garlic, three kilos of black pepper and four bags of jumbo were handed over to the school administration at a ceremony held at the school grounds.

Speaking at the handing over ceremony, Ko Brasder of the foundation expressed his foundation’s commitment to help the Gambia in its development drive.

According to him, the donation was aimed at helping the school for the deaf children, noting that they are in need of help. He added that the foundation has some projects back home in Holland for Africa and that they decided to come to the Gambia to give their support to the needy.

The donation, he said is not the first of its kind as the foundation last year gave out 500 Euros, ten bags of rice, three drums of oil and two bags of onion to the school.

Mr Brasder added that the foundation also paid three months salaries for the cook at the school equivalent to D6000. He assured the school of his foundation’s continued support.

For his part, Mr Daniel J Mendy, Headmaster of the school commended the donors for what he described as timely and benevolent gesture.

According to him, this will go a long way in helping the school in feeding the children. “We really appreciate the gesture as it comes at a time when the school is really in need of it. The foundation has been so generous to the school; anytime they visit the school, they have something to give”, he said.
