Spanish vice premier on Gambia visit

Her Excellency, Dona Maria Teresa Fernandez de la Vega, 1st vice prime minister of the Kingdom of Spain, last evening arrived in The Gambia on a two-day working visit.

Accompanied by a high powered delegation comprising officials from the government of Spain, VP Fernandez de la Vega, on arrival at the Banjul International Airport, was received by high profile government officials, including the Speaker of the National Assembly, fatoumata Jahumpa-Ceesay, the Chief Justice, Abdou Karim Savage, secretaries of state, National Assembly members and a cross section of the Gambian community.

This visit, according to reports, aims at further strengthening the already very cordial bilateral co-operation between the Republic of The Gambia and the Kingdom of Spain. According to the itinerary of her visit, today Monday 9th March, she will pay a courtesy call on the president of the Republic, His Excellency Professor Alhaji Dr Yahya Jammeh at State House. She will also hold a joint session with the vice president of the Republic on the same day and later both VPM Fernandez de la Vega and VP Njie-Saidy will preside over the signing ceremony of the bilateral cooperation agreement between the two friendly countries.

Reports also indicate that, as part of her visit, the 1st vice prime minister of the Kingdom of Spain will also visit the Gambia Technical Training Institute in Kanifing, The Gambia Naval Base in Banjul and the Women’s Vegetable Garden situated in Bakoteh. Her Excellency Dona Maria Teresa Fernandez de la Vega and Delegation are scheduled to leave Banjul for Madrid on Monday evening.
