Student Sent to Jail for Theft

Ansu Jaiteh, a student, who was standing trial on two counts of conspiracy and stealing was recently convicted and sentenced by the Kanifing Magistrates’ Court.

On Count I, he was convicted and sentenced to a fine of D1000 or in default to serve seven months in prison.

He was convicted and sentenced to one year’s imprisonment with hard labour on Count II.

He was also ordered to compensate the complainant the sum of D3720 for his stolen goods or in default to serve four months in prison with hard labour.

The presiding magistrate, Senior Magistrate Abdoulie Mbackeh ruled further that if the convict fails to pay the fine and also compensation, the sentences would run consecutively.
