The three-day training for health journalist organised and co-ordinated by the Media Agenda and sponsorship by the National Commission for UNESCO on the theme “mental health and diabetes”, ended last Wednesday at The Gambia Press Union Head Office in Bakau.
The forum which brought together over 25 participants, was geared towards equipping them with the necessary skills and knowledge in health reporting. Speaking at the closing ceremony, Madi Ceesay, director of Media Agenda and co-ordinator of the training, described the training as educative. According to him, the objective of the training was to expose the trainees on how to tap health informations, in order for them to think health and write about health.
Pa Modou Faal, president of The Gambia Health Journalist Association, thanked NATCOM for sponsoring the training. According to him, health is everybody’s business and is up to the journalist, to put into practice the skills and knowledge gained during the training. He urged them to serve as champions in disseminating the informations especially on mental health and diabetes.
Amadou A Sowe, programme manager, health education unit (DoSH), thanked the participants for attending the training session. He urged participant not to be relentless in their duties to inform the Gambian community especially about health. Edna Musu Jassey of GRTS Television, who gave the vote of thanks, urged the sponsors to continue the support. She urged participants to share the informations gain. At the end of the training, certificates were awarded to participant.
