Two Guinean Face DeportationWednesday, September 16, 2009 Two Guinean nationals, Ebrima Nyang and Omar Bah, were on Thursday 10th September 2009, convicted and sentenced to three months in prison, with hard labour for stealing by the Banjul Magistrates’ Court before Magistrate Suharata Danso. He also ordered the duo to be immediately deported to their country of original upon completion of their sentence. According to the alleged offence, on 29th August 2009, at the Banjul Ferry Terminal in the city of In passing his sentence, Magistrate Danso stated that, the convicts pleaded guilty to the charges preferred against them without wasting court’s time, and that they are first time offenders. He said they are not notorious criminals, but noted that they cannot go scot-free. As he put it, they must be punished in order to deter others from such act. According to him, before their deportation they must have their photos taken and place in the police stations within the Greater Banjul Area and Barra.
