U-17 to Embark on Four-Day Nationwide Tour Tomorrow

Following a Presidential directive after their noteworthy, exemplary and gold winning performance at the CAF U-17 Championship in Algeria, the darling U-17 Championship will embark on a nationwide victory tour on Tuesday April 28, 2009 to show solidarity and appreciation to the Gambian populace for their financial and outstanding morale support throughout the tournament.

Honourable Sheriff M.L.Gomez, Minister of Youth and Sports and Mr. Seedy Buwa Kinteh, President of the Gambia Football Association (GFA) will lead a hundred-man team on this tour which is meant to give the Gambian public an excellent opportunity to interact with the members of the team and to offer them prayers for the forthcoming U-17 FIFA World Cup in October 2009 in Nigeria.

According to a press release issued the GFA and signed by Abdou Salaam Jammeh,  the tour organized as part of the celebrations to honour the Baby Scorpions, the newly crowned African Champions, will leave the nation’s capital on Tuesday April 28, 2009 via Barra in the North Bank Region.

“The Gambia Football Association and the Ministry of Youth and Sports would like to solicit the cooperation of the Executive Governors of North Bank Region, Lower River Region, Central River Region, Upper River Region and the Western Region in mobilizing the citizenry of their respective regions for tumultuous welcome befitting these champions,” the release states.

“The four day nationwide tour is sponsored by the Chief Patron of the Gambia Football Association, His Excellency President Yahya A.J.J. Jammeh,” the release adds.

It further states, “The Gambia Football Association and the Ministry of Youth and Sports would like to thank President Jammeh and the private sector for their long standing support to football.”

As part of the tour itinerary the Baby Scorpions will commence Tuesday’s trip by first visiting Barra, Kerewan, Farafenni, Janjangbureh, Bansang and Basse.

On Wednesday the delegation will proceed to Brikama Ba Kudang and Mansa Konko

Thursday’s routine will include Tendaba, Kalagi, Kanilai, Bwiam, Sibanor, Kartong. Gunjur, Brufut and Sukuta will also be visited as part of country wide tour.
