Volleyball Prexy Returns From Zone II Congress

Musa Cassa Taal, the President of the Gambia Volleyball Association and Secretary-General of Zone II volleyball body, has returned from Zone II Volleyball Congress in Guinea Conakry.

According to Taal, the September 10th 2009 congress was a very successful deliberation.   He said the election of another executive that will run the affairs of the body for the next years which was part of the agenda of the congress, which he said, has been deferred till next year, in Senegal.

This will allow the African Confederation of Volleyball to review the draft constitution that was forwarded by the Zone II committee to the President of the CAVB, Dr Amr Elwani, to meet the standards of the African (CAVB) and world body (FIVB).

The sub- regional congress also looked at regulatory mechanisms for the West African body, and is poised to stage annual regional competitions.

The committee also agreed to stage a Beach Volleyball competition next year, with Sierra Leone being the first to host the championship, seconded by Cape Verde in 2011. Senegal has been tipped as host of next year Indoor Volleyball and venue for next year’s regional congress.

The sub-regional body, headed by Mory Keita of Guinea was founded in 1968, and The Gambia last hosted a sub-regional championship in 2007.
