Waving Goodbye to Malaria

Tuesday, April 28, 2009

Well done to all those involved in the celebrations marking the World Malaria Day, commemorated annually on 25th April each year. African Media and Malaria Network (AMMREN) Gambia Chapter on Monday organised a one-day sensitization for journalists from both the print and electronic media on malaria. This is a very beneficial and positive move. Malaria poses a serious threat to our society and the media has a very important role to play in educating the public so that we may eradicate the scourge for once and for all.

The day conference was held at the CIAM Hall in Kanifing. Speaking at the venue, Pa Modou Faal, AMMREN Gambia chapter national coordinator, revealed that the day was part of activities marking the World Malaria Day with theme counting out malaria. We pray that this will be achieved very soon as the cost in both human and monetary terms to The Gambia is too high at the moment.

For her part, the deputy programme manager NMCP, Madam Adam Jagne – Sonko, revealed that The Gambia over the years has intensified action against Malaria scaling up key intervention by government with support from local and international partners. This activity must continue and through the help of the media we can say goodbye to the scourge of malaria for once and for all.
