We commend and congratulate Principal Magistrate Pa Harry Jammeh of the Brikama Magistrates’ Court who recently warned the people of Jambur village to keep the peace and live together. He also urged them to continue as Jamburians and that he will not tolerate any behaviour from anybody that would jepordise the breach of the peace in the village. This advice should apply not only to the village but to all of The Gambia. Only if we live together in harmony and work together can we hope to move forward as a nation on the road to national development.
Peace is the essential ingredient in a progressive society and so we must all be conscious of the role we have to play as individuals in attaining it. A society free from fear and intimidation is the only kind of society that can succeed. We have written in these pages before of the importance of putting tribal differences to one side and moving forward as one unified nation. This can only be attained if we live together in peace.
Peace and harmony are the building blocks on which we can continue to build a progressive society. We must respect each others human rights and live together in peace.
We all have a role to play and should heed the words of Magistrate Jammeh so that we can continue on the path to peace, prosperity and development.
“Since wars begin in the minds of men, it is in the minds of men that the defences of peace must be constructed.”
