Four goals hero in the recently concluded African U-17 cadet championship in Algiers, Marksman Ebrima Bojang, expressed delight for winning his first ever African U-17 trophy and described the victory as the greatest achievement in his life.
‘I thank the almighty Allah for guiding me and my team mates through all these joyous moments. The 17-year-old made these remarks during an interview with Pointsport at his residence in Bakau Newtown on Monday.
He added that teamwork has been the key to their success given the fact that without team work, it will be difficult for them to achieve what they have achieved.
The former Samger prodigy whose face was beaming with joy during this interview further went on to thank the Egyptian people for their prayers during their training camp in Cairo ahead of the championship, and advised all the national teams to do the same in their respective competitions.
The Egyptians contributed immensely towards our success because they always prayed for us while we were there, and I believe all their prayers have been answered, the elated forward told our reporter.
He urged the entire Gambians to continue praying for all the national teams so that the country’s performance at the international level can be satisfactory.
Ebou Bojang as he is fondly called, also advised the young and talented players to be respectful to their coaches and take football seriously so that they can maintain the same momentum.
He counted himself lucky and revealed that it is a fantastic occasion to be awarded a joint- top scorer along side his comrade Alasana Camara in one of Africa’s most popular tournament.
He commended the Gambian leader President Jammeh for fulfilling his promise by making them Millionaires and prayed for him long life, good health and happiness, and thanked him for the services he is rendering to the development of sports in the country.
Ebrima Bojang started his football career for Katchikally FC, a nawettan team in Bakau where he won a trophy and became the team’s leading goal-scorer.
He also played for Saul Samba and Ron Mango respectively where he won handful of cups and caught the eyes of the then 3rd division team Samger, and helped the Academy boys gain promotion to the second division where they finally earned a place in the country’s top flight football.
Known for his creativity and a great eye for goal, Ebou made a quick move to one of the most successful Gambian clubs Real de Banjul where he became the second leading goal-scorer in his first season as Real won the league in 2007.
