Yamundow Jobe is First Female Black Belt Holder in Taekwondo

The World Taekwodo Federation last Friday approved The Gambia’s first female Taewondo black belt holder after expressing their satisfaction and her preparedness for a first degree in black belt.

This new development in the annals of Gambian sports, especially taekwondo, took place following periodic grading exams held last Wednesday by The Gambia Taewondo Association Technical Committee.

The black belt exams were recorded and sent electronically to the World Taekwondo Federation.

Elated Yamundow Jobe told Pointsport, “this is the first degree black belt and it’s the first step among more to come. I am looking forward to my 4th degree black belt so that I can open a school to train young people.”

She pointed out that this development is as a result of the hard training and dedication coupled with her interest in the sport.

She encouraged fellow young women to enter the sport as human beings; “you need to engage in sports so that you can do your best at it when you get old. Taewondo is a very good sport as it teaches discipline and good morals,” she highlighted.

The first female black belt holder is also optimistic about representing The Gambia at international level as she told Pointsport that she is currently training hard in preparation for the Arab Games in October 2009.

Yamundow Jobe was joined by Yankunba Sanneh who also passed the grading exams from brown to black belt.
