The Scholar Athletes For Change, a new project that aims to excel in both academies and sports, particularly in the field of basketball, in collaboration with the Gambia YMCA are on the verge of staging a four-day basketball camp, to be held at the Independence Stadium in Bakau.
The event is billed from August 17 -20 2009.
The Scholar Athletes For Change, according to Pierre Jallow, who is believed to have been the founder of this non-profit -making NGO, is geared towards helping the under- privileged children in African, especially his home country the Gambia, ‘to excel in education and sports in a conducive and equal opportunity environment’.
“The scholar Athletes For Change (SAC) has multiple projects, which is purposely meant to help and develop the youngsters in both academies and sports, which Basketball is the main focus,” the Finnish-based Gambian explained.
Pierre Jallow, a former basketball star who received a scholarship in basketball expressed SAC project’s desire to concentrate on basketball only for the meantime.
He went on to state that, his desire is to continue working hand-in-glove with the Gambia YMCA and ensure the smooth running of the project. He thanked his team for their tiredless efforts towards the achievement of the project.
Pierre Jallow took the opportunity to present T-shirts to the Director of YMCA, Sam Thorpe.

He promised to encourage the YMCA basketball team to win titles.
“The Gambia YMCA is always actively involved in youth issues and I am quite sure that this important and noble vesture will raise the standard at YMCA,” Sam stated.
The PRO of SAC, Mr. Dacosta, the Programme Secretary of YMCA, Joseph Peacock, and initiator of SAC, Mr. Joe Jallow, also spoke at the occasion.
SAC sponsors, such as Trust Bank LTD, New Vision Insurance Company, FIG Financial Services Ltd, National Sports Council, the host of the event, Independence Stadium, among others, were commended for their support towards this noble initiative.
