Young People Have Spoken Their Minds

africa » gambia
Thursday, January 22, 2009

The Gambian young people who took part in the just concluded National Youth Conference and Festival (NAYCONF) from the 16th to 24th December 2008 have spoken well thus tasking themselves, the government and other stakeholders.

Young people in their resolutions called on the Gambian government to create more employment and empower them more. They also called for the annual subvention given to The Gambia National Youth Council by government to be increased. They further called for the donor agencies to do more for the country’s youth.

The Gambia’s future leaders reaffirmed their commitment to play their part in the socio economic development of The Gambia.

The youth have demanded a lot in their 2008 Farafenni NAYCONF resolutions. The implementation of those resolutions by the National Youth Council, government, donors and young people themselves is the big

Challenge.

According to analysts, without the full implementation of these and previous NAYCONF resolutions the biennial youth gathering will become worthless.

For the partners and supporters of youth, we encourage you to keep investing your money in a worthy course.

To the next host KanifingMunicipality, we advice the Municipal youth committee to start preparing themselves as early as possible so as to register a successful Nayconf come 2010. In the same vein, we appeal to the Central River Region to be calm and wait for the God’s time and not to protest.
