Asocion Ayuda Mutua de Baddibunkas in Spain, over the weekend, presented a cash amount of five hundred and twenty-eight thousand dalasis to the community of Baddibu Njaaba Kunda to kick start a new Health Centre project.
Alhagie Borry Jaiteh, chairman of the association’s local committee in The Gambia received the money at a grand ceremony held at the village.
Speaking at the ceremony, chairman Jaiteh gave a brief history of the health center. According to him, the current structures were build 30 years ago and were used as a dispensary unit until in 1975 when they got assistance from German philanthropist to face lift the center again.
He thank Mr Louis Pvigolemont and the natives of Njaaba Kunda residing in Spain for the huge sum, meant to improve the health centre. He also assured that the money will be put into good use.
For his part, Louis Pvigolemont, the association’s counterpart from spain, expressed delight at the warm welcome accorded to him. He assured the people of Baddibu of his personal support, but quickly urged them to maintain the project and forge ahead with the good link between the two countries.
Janko Kanteh, the head of the delegation from Spain, challenge parents to advice their relatives in the diaspora to take the association seriously. According to him, they find it very difficult to mobilised them for meetings and to pay their monthly contributions for the development of the village.
“I know must of you gathered here today have one or two relatives in Europe. Convince them to join the association if they have not yet and those who joined, to pay their contributions regularly”. he appealed.
Amadou Sowe from Department of State for Health ,represented Dr Tamsir Mbowe, director of health and medical services. Janko Fofana chaired the ceremony.
