Mr Ousman Njie, the Director of International Operations at Gamtel’s Abuko Earth Station, was the latest state witness to testify at the treason trial involving Tamsir Jasseh, Alieu Jobe, Omar Faal and Hon. Demba Dem.
In his testimony before Justice Anin Yeboah of the High Court, Mr Njie said that on the 20th March 2006, he was on his way to Senegal for an official mission when his technician, Lamin Colley, called him to say that someone needed to talk to him. He said Colley then handed over the phone to the person who identified himself as Capt. Camara.
He said he told Capt. Camara that he was travelling to Senegal.
Mr Njie said on the 21st March 2006, while on his way back to The Gambia, he got another call which, he added, turned out to be the same Capt. Camara. He said Capt. Camara informed him that he was supposed to collect something from him (Mr Njie), that one Ebrima Fatty’s sister, who lived in Bakau, was supposed to give him.
He said he told Capt. Camara that he was talking to the wrong person. He added that he suggested to Capt. Camara to see him the following morning.
Mr Njie further testified that Abuko Earth Station is the main gateway through Gambia for national and international calls.
The case was at that juncture adjourned to 10th January, 2007.
