Three Arrested In Bakau

Cherno Ndure Jarju, Lamin Jarsey and Mariama Fatty, all of Jatta Kunda, Bakau, were reportedly arrested by the police since Monday 20th November, and have up to the time of going to press not been released.

The arrest of the three occurred while they were on board a vehicle from the Kanifing courts where they attended hearing into a case against some of their family members.

According to the reports, members of the Jatta Kunda and the Dubois Kunda families traded insults following the adjournment of their ongoing court case. Following the incident the latter reported the matter to the police.

Dudu Kassa Jaata, uncle of the arrestees, told The Point that the two boys, Jarju and Jarsey, are 14-year-old students while Mariama is 18. Mr. Jaata described the arrest as politically motivated.
He further said that on the date of the arrests, all three were taken to Kairaba Police Station but that the two boys were later moved to Kotu Police while Mariama was taken to Manjai Police Station. As at now, Mr. Jaata further said, all three arrestees are currently being detained at the Bundung Police Station.

Mr. Kassa Jaata has therefore called on the authorities to do everything possible to release these teenagers.
