Since the introduction of female in the national league under the guidance of the national football governing body, the GFA, three seasons back, a lot of progress has been made in a bid to encourage and develop female football.
In its new move to revitalise the game, the Gambia Football Association in collaboration with the World football governing body, FIFA will organise a one-day seminar on women’s football.
A press release from the Gambia Football Association reveals that the day-long gathering is schedule for Thursday, September 21, 2006 at the Independence Stadium, Bakau.
The release added: “The seminar is aimed to look into the driving forces, obstacles and the way forward of female football in The Gambia. The one-day forum is an important opportunity to showcase female football in the country. A record number of 42 participants to this ground-breaking event would be drawn from the GFA female and regional league clubs.”
The release continued: “A Ghanaian born, Ben Koufie and Ms Bailly Marie-Paule of Cote D’Ivoire would serve as the course directors whilst in The Gambia, the FIFA representatives would hold talks with the GFA officials on the reactivation of the long term planning of women’s football.”
According to the release, the Banjul forum was initiated by Mr Seedy MB Kinteh, the President of The Gambia Football Association through Mr Sampon K Kablan, FIFA regional representative who is based in Cote D’Ivoire. The one-day seminar is expected to be graced by high profiled sport administrators, politicians among other dignitaries.
