Johannesburg Conference Urges Active Women Participation in Football Administration

A Continental Administration Course for new instructors recently held in South Africa as part of the 50th anniversary celebrations of the Confederation of Africa Football has stressed the need for an active participation of women in football administration.

The Continental Administration course for new instructors, which took place from on 28-31 October 2007, brought together 49 out of 52 member countries of CAF.

Abdou Salaam Jammeh, CAF Education Officer and Acting Gambia Football Association Secretary General who attended the conference, told Pointsport the  gathering which call for an active participation of women in football administration was aimed at fostering football development on the continent.

He added that it also aimed to encourage better relations between CAF and its member associations, to transport knowledge and ideas to administrators and Instructors.

“The Gambia was praised among others for putting in place education programmes,” he said.

According to him, the conference was a great achievement in the development of human resources.

He added that the conference also dwelt on responsibilities of administrators, CAF’s role in organising international matches, CAF structures and competitions in 50 years’ later and new media development.

The conference also looked into the preparation of South Africa for the World Cup and specific duties relating to professional football.
