A human body which was in an advanced stage of decomposition was discovered on Thursday afternoon at Bakau Beach, believed to have been washed ashore by the heavy waves of the sea.

The gruesome discovery pulled out curious onlookers, including fishermen and women fish traders. Personnel of the Gambia Police Force and the Gambia Fire and Ambulance Services, were also spotted at the scene.
The body was suspected to be among the missing 20 of the 50 illegal migrants, who were presumed dead, following a fire incident in around the swamps near Banjul, on November 10.

One of the onlookers, Baba Sanyang, who claimed to be a relative of the deceased, identified the body as Jarga Kinteh, a native of Jifarong Village in Kiang West District, Lower River Region (LRR). Baba Sanyang told the Daily Observer that the late Kinteh was a member of the Gambia Fire and Ambulance Services attached at the Brikama station.

An uncle to the decease, Masanneh Kinteh, who corroborated on the identity of the body, confirmed that the deceased was from Kiang Jifarong and he clamed was a firefighter in the Gambia Fire and Ambulance Services. He said his nephew was granted a sick leave, which he used to join other young men on voyage to the Canary Island, Spain.

A deodorising chemical spray was later spattered on the body, which was visibly tampered with apparently by sea creatures, with its skull, teeth and bones exposed. The body was then wrapped in a blanket and buried at a distance away from the busy landing site of canoes.

The deceased is reportedly married with a child.
This discovery if confirmed brought the total number of missing identified to 12.
