Body of Another Boat Disaster Victim Found in Bakau

The remains of one Jariga Kanteh, a former personnel of Gambia Fire and Ambulance Services attached to Brikama Fire Station, was found somewhere in Bakau on Thursday at around 16.30 p.m, this paper has been reliably informed.

The late fire officer, Kanteh, is believed to be one of the victims of the boat accident that occurred on Friday, 9th November 2007.
This brings to 12 the total number of bodies recovered so far.

The Point gathered that the late Mr. Kanteh’s body, which could only be identified by the uniform he wore, had decomposed to an extent that it had to be buried at the beach in Bakau. The family of the late Kanteh were said to have earlier reported him missing immediately after the Friday 9th boat disaster.

The late Mr. Kanteh is said to hail from Kiang Gifarong in Lower River Region, but had been residing with a family in Farato village, Kombo South. He is survived by a wife and children.

It could be recalled that a boat carrying a number of 50 Gambian illegal migrants, mostly youths, caught fire after having set sail for Spain, resulting to the disappearance of some 20 people.
