Human trafficking case starts

Four Senegalese residents in The Gambia who were recently arrested around Fajara Hotel for attempting to migrate to the Canary Island in Spain, in search of greener pasture were on Monday February 26, arraigned before Magistrate Amina Saho of the Bundung Magistrate Court, for engaging in illegal trafficking of human being.

According to the particulars of the offence, on February 22, at Bakau Beach , the accused persons: namely Musa Faal, Samba Jobe, Ousman Jobe and Mam Musa Faal were intercepted in the Gambian territorial water loading people on boat in an unsafe manner on route to the Canary Island in Spain.

When the charge was read to them, Musa Faal pleaded guilty, while the three others pleaded not guilty to the charges preferred against them.

They were subsequently remanded in custody and the case adjourned for continuation.
