May Day Celebrated in Grand Style

On Tuesday, Gambian workers joined the rest of the world in commemorating Workers Day which falls on 1 May.

In The Gambia, the Day was marked in grand style at the Independence Stadium where government departments, Parastatals and public and private institutions in the country took part in what is known as May Day Sport.

This year’s commemoration of May Day marks the 17th edition of May Day Sports in The Gambia.
The celebrations also took the form of a march-past where each department displayed their trade and commodities.

The award of the Most Disciplined Team went to the Gambia Revenue authority, the best dressed team award was received by Standard Chartered Bank, the award for the Tug of War was received by the Gambia Armed Forces and the Greasy Pole award went to the Gambia Fire Services.

The Police emerged first with 88 points and the Immigration Department secured 2nd with 80 points followed by the Prisons Department.

The occasion ended in the form of a raffle draw with Quantum Net as the sole sponsor.
