Adiatou Njie, Director of the Fisheries has revealed that the Bakau Fisheries Centre’s management will be restructured as soon as possible to ensure efficient operations of the centre for the benefit of the Bakau community and the country as a whole.
Mr Njie made these revelation at his office in Banjul on Friday whilst responding to questions put to him by this reporter, following the intervention of an interim management on the restructuring of the Bakau Fisheries Centre’s Management.
According to Mr Njie, a meeting was called to this effect last Wednesday by the Acting Mayor of KMC, Alieu Momar Njie at the KMC conference hall.
He revealed that presently, there is an interim management committee from the Fisheries Department and the KMC taking care of the operations of the centre until the process of restructuring is complete.
Mr Njie further stated that Momo Bojang and Sarana Jatta from the KMC and Philly Sanneh and Baboucarr Jallow from the Fisheries Department are the Management Committee taking care of the operations of the centre on a temporal basis until the new management is set up.
He noted that the restructuring will be based on community concensus and advice from the Fisheries Department and the KMC.
However, when the Observer reporter made an attempt to reach the Alkalo of Bakau, Luntanding Jaiteh for comments on the issue of the interim management instead of selecting the new management directly, he declined to comment on the issue.
