Barely a few days when Interior Male team clinched the GFA Second Division league title to regain their position in the First Division league, the Female sides made it a double joy in a week after claiming the Female First Division League title.

Interior just needed a point to snatch the coveted title and they indeed got it, after a 2-2 draw with fellow contenders, Red Scorpions in a fiery-encounter, played on Sunday at the Independence Stadium, Bakau.

The draw match saw the Security Club finished at the top of the table with 21 points while Red Scorpions finished second with 20 points.

City Girls got relegated after finishing at the bottom with 7 points, and would be succeeded by Makasutu who earlier finished as Second Division queens.

Commenting on the highs and lows of the Female League season, Sainey Jammeh, President of the Gambia Female Football, said the photo-finish in the league season manifested a competitive run that was fought to the end.

Jammeh commended both the First and Second Division clubs for their effective participation, adding that come next season will be a better one with more competitions.

“Next season will be a different story and we will stage more trophies to bring about more competitions. We planned to name a special trophy after the First Lady, Madam Zeinab Jammeh, in addition to the League and FA Cup titles. We hope that this will bring about more competitions among the teams.”

Jammeh also hinted on the undergoing process of forming the Female Team before the commencement of 2008 season.

“We will invite some forty players for a collective training under the guidance of a coach that would be named by the national football governing body. This is just a start and before next year we want to have a full-fledge National Female Team in place,” he concluded.
