Scorpions’ goalkeeper, Bala Musa Bajaha, has revealed that the Spanish coach Jose Martenez is the best coach the Gambia could ever have.
He said the Spaniard is a man with the technical know-how, noting that his technical instructions are of European standards.
“Coach Martenez has proved a point. We drew two and won one out of the three matches we played under his guidance. He is very technical and we do enjoy working with him,” the Swedish-based goalkeeper told Observer Sports shortly after Scorpions’ Sunday 2-1 win over Algeria at the Independence Stadium, Bakau.
Spaniard Jose Martenez was in March 2007, hired by the sports department to take charge of the Scorpions after the unceremonious departure of the out-of-favour German Antoine Hey who had a shaky start with the Scorpions.
Martenez started his assignment with a 2-2 away draw with Syli Nationales, who earlier mauled Scorpions 2-0 in the Banjul first-leg fixture.
Two weeks later, the Spaniard alongside his Egyptian comrade, Tarik Siaggy, led Gambia to a goalless draw in Cape Verde before rounding up the unaccomplished mission with a sensational 2-0 win over the northerners, Algeria.
