Youth Parliamentarians Sensitized

A two–day sensitization workshop on Reproductive Health and Gender Rights for 30 youth parliamentarians ended recently at the President International Awards Scheme in Bakau.

The workshop, organized by the National Youth Council (NYC) in collaboration with the National Youth Parliament (NYP), was funded by UNFPA.

Addressing the opening ceremony, Mambanyick Njie, deputy Permanent Secretary at the Department of State for Youth, Sports and Religious Affairs, explained that the National Youth Parliament was created for youths to learn their culture and exchange views as well as collaborate with each other, adding that NYP has contributed in Gambia’s efforts to institutionalise democracy.

He used the occasion to call on youth associations in the country to be more proactive in their undertakings. DPS Njie admonished youths to always adopt the principle of dialogue rather than that of confrontation.

He thanked UNFPA for funding the workshop while encouraging the participants to take the workshop seriously.

Other speakers on the occasion include Mustapha Kebbeh, Chairperson of NYC and Hon. Lamin F. Bojang, Speaker of the National Youth Parliament, delivered the vote of thanks.

The ceremony was chaired by Pa Malick Ceesay, Executive Secretary NYC.
