The Gambia Ports Authority FC will on Saturday, February 16th host the Ivorian side ES Bingerville at The Independence Stadium in Bakau, in the first leg of the 5th edition of CAF Confederation Cup Championship.
The Confederation of African Football Bureau of InterClubs Committee, under the chairmanship of CAF President Issa Hayatou, established the fixtures of the MTN CAF Champions League and the Confederation Cup following a meeting held on 4 December 2007.
However, Forty-four teams will take part in the 2008 Confederation Cup and the eight third round winners will progress to the group stage of Africa’s second-tier club competition.
Around the continent, teams will take on their opponents in the first leg on the weekend of February 15-17.
Gambia Ports Authority FC will travel to Abidjan to play the return leg on the weekend of February 29, March 1-2.
It will be recalled that CS Sfaxien beat Al Merreikh 5-2 on aggregate in the 2007 final to become champions of the Confederation Cup.
