Thursday, May 1, will mark the eighteenth edition of May Day’s Sports carnival, annually organised by The Gambia National Olympic Committee.
The mass sporting event, according to the organisers, is meant to commemorate Labour Day for all categories of workers in The Gambia. This year’s edition to be hosted at the Independence Stadium, Bakau, will once again see workers from all works of life coming together to celebrate and participate in all the sporting activities.
Over 50 teams drawn from public and private sectors will come together to compete in the event which includ such activities as Greasy Pole Climbing, Tug of War and a number of other interesting games.
According to the organisers, the fiesta will give an opportunity for the community to come together, joining old friends and meeting new ones, celebrating the spirit of The Gambia through sport .
“It also gives an opportunity to members of the community who don't usually attend sports events, to come along and learn about all the other activities that happen around The Gambia's premier sports facility.”
