Youssou Ndour, the Senegalese International music super star, yesterday performed at the July 22 Square in Banjul as part of the victory celebrations of president Jammeh landslide victory in the September 22 Presidential polls.
The Senegalese Ndaga Super Star’s unprecedented free show was organised by the Victory Celebration Committee.
The ceremony was attended by thousands of Gambians including The Gambian leader President Yahya Jammeh,Vice President Dr Aja Isatou Njie Saidy, Secretaries of State, other top government officials and top Gambian Artist.
In a short statement before his performance, Youssou Ndour commended President Yahya Jammeh for the initiative in providing such a “beautiful and sophisticated musical instruments for The Gambian artists”.
The Ndaga Super star described the instruments as second to none in the African continent.He said President Jammeh is a visionary leader whose aim is to move The Gambia forward.
Youssou Ndour called on Gambians and Senegalese to understand that the two countries are sister nations and that no one can differentiate the two.
Prominent Gambian artistes on Saturday, kick-started the victory celebrations at the July 22nd Square in Banjul. Amongst the artistes that performed, included Amie Jaw, an up and-coming star, 5 Star Band, Mam Tamsir Njie and the Gwel-Gi Band, Seyjo Band, Naffi Jobarteh, Jaliba Kuyateh and the Kumareh Band, Freaky Joe, Sambou Susso, Mass Lowe, Malaya, President Jammeh’s guest artiste from United Kingdom, Yusupha Ngum, alias Jollof Man, Amie Cherry, Nancy Nance, Abdel Kabir alias the Golf father, Pap Touray, the Army Band and many more rap groups.
