GAF members return from Dafur

The first batch of the third contingent comprised of 106 members of the Gambia Armed Forces (GAF), on Saturday, returned to Banjul, after an eight-month service in the Sudanese troubled region of Darfur, Sudan.

As result, the first batch of 106 members of the fourth contingent was accordingly deployed on the same day, as part of the rotation of GAF’s military personnel in Darfur. The troops were met on arrival at the Banjul International Airport by Lt Col Peter Singhateh, Deputy Chief of Defence Staff, on behalf of Col Lang Tombong, Chief of Defence Staff of GAF.

Receiving the troops, Lt Col Singhateh congratulated the contingent for conducting their duties in Sudan successfully. He then welcomed them home and wished them happy reunions with their families and friends. Captain Lamin Gano, Public Relations Officer of GAF, told the Daily Observer that the remaining GAF personnel are scheduled to be airlifted to Sudan today. He added that the remaining personnel of the third contingent are expected to arrive in Banjul on the same day.
