Jammeh returns to Banjul... Irano-Gambian cooperation expanded

President Yahya Jammeh, accompanied by a high powered delegation returns to Banjul today at 8.00 am after a three-day official visit to Tehran, Islamic Republic of Iran.

According to a release issued by the Office of the President, those invited to welcome The President are requested to be at the airport at least half an hour before arrival for the usual ceremonies.

While in Iran President Jammeh explored other areas of cooperation with his Iranian counterpart, President Ahmadinejad Ahmadinejad.

According to the Islamic Republic News Agency (IRNA), the Gambian president held talks on bilateral issues of mutual interest with senior Iranian officials among them, the Supreme Leader Ayatollah Seyed Ali Khamenei, President Ahmadinejad and Judiciary Chief, Mahmoud Hashemi Shahroudi. The Gambain Head of State also held separate meetings with Iranian Minister of Foreign Affairs, Manouchehr Mottaki, Energy Minister, Parviz Fattah and Minister of Agriculture, Jihad Mohammad-Reza Eskandari during which the two sides discussed the implementation of agreements previously concluded on energy and agriculture.

President Jammeh and delegation on Sunday paid tribute to the Father of the Islamic Revolution, the late Imam Khomeini, and laid a wreath on the Imam's grave. After the wreath-laying ceremony, President Jammeh signed the visitor’s book in the late Imam's mausoleum.

Earlier, the Iranian and Gambian Foreign Ministers, signed a joint statement and a Memorandum of Understanding witnessed by the two heads of state. Before leaving Tehran President Jammeh and his Iranian counterpart held a joint press conference.
