The uncertainty surrounding the Gambia national U-20 team participation to their first ever African Youth Championship in Congo is now a thing of the past as the team would leave Banjul on Wednesday January 10th 2007 for Congo via South Africa.
According to the second Vice President of The Gambia Football Association (GFA), Mass Axi Gai, The Gambia government through the Department of State for Youth Sports and Religious Affairs would be providing the transportation of the team to Congo. He added that the team would leave Banjul on Tuesday evening 9th January 2006 for Dakar, where they would fly on Wednesday 10th January to South Africa for their last training camp before the Congo championship.
Mr Gai added that the lodging of the team in South Africa and transportation from South Africa to Congo would be taken care of by the South African Football Association (SAFA).
GFA second top man revealed that the team is expected to play two friendly matches with local teams in South Africa to be identified by SAFA.
The team would finally leave Johannesburg on the 18th January for Brazzaville where they would lock horns with Burkina Faso in their first match on January 20th.
