Confirmed sources reaching this paper have intimated that the two officials of Amnesty International alongside a local journalist who were recently arrested by Gambian security operatives have been released unconditionally.
The two Amnesty staff, Tania Bernath and Ayobele Ameen and journalist Yaya Dampha of Foroyaa newspaper were nabbed in Basse, about 350 miles east of Banjul and subsequently thrown behind bars at the Police Headquarters in Banjul for hours before being granted bail.
The trio was accused of spying and espionage, charges which they vehemently denied.
However, the arrested and subsequent detention of the three created a lot of outcry from the human rights activists and the media fraternity who roundly criticized these developments.
